| The Rich Don't Pay Enough Taxes - Really?? I decided to dig up some info to see exactly who paid what for income tax, the numbers may surprise you, but maybe not. The top 5% of Americans, in terms of income, pay over 53% of the total federal income tax. The top 50% of Americans account for 96.03% of the federal income tax. Now here is another statistic, the top 5% took in 21.4% of the income. This is a common statistic used by dems to cite the problem with the income gap in America, however when you put this statistic next to the fact that the top 5% also accounts for 53% of the total federal tax income it doesn't look so substantial. I can't understand how people can keep criticizing Republicans for proposing tax cuts for the rich. Should the top 5% really carry 50% of the income tax, when they only make 21.4% of the income? How about you carry the percent you make. In other words the top 5% should carry 21.4% of the income tax, since that is what they make. Obama says we all need to be responsible, let's start with EQUAL taxes. I like equality. We look at the rich as evil, yet it is the investors and capitalists that power new ideas and businesses and allow them to take off. It is why America is always at the forefront of technology. Punishing the rich means destroying the power that has made America great. If you have a good idea you should be financially rewarded for it. Bill Gates is a Billionaire for a reason, so is Warren Buffet.
