Chart Pie Stevens loses Alaska Senate race

Quote:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has lost his bid for a seventh term. The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday's count. That's an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted. Stevens, who turned 85 Tuesday, also revealed that he will not ask President George W. Bush to give him a pardon for his seven felony convictions.

WiseOne's Comments, well looks like Stevens' career is done. Still amazes me that Alaska now will have a Dimocrat Senator. Actually, Stevens should have stepped down even if he wasn't guilty on this one...

I think it's pretty much "Game Over" for Stevens. Even if he wasn't found guilty of anything, I know that many of us up here felt it was time for someone new to take his place. Of course, not a Democrat, but I guess you can't have everything you want. LOL

Even if he wasn't guilty he should have stepped down out of respect for the party. It is important to have candidates that can win. I'm not trying to dimish the fact that everyone is innocent until proven guilty but in politics that is not how people look at it. Plus he had a good run.
