| Christian politicians granted kennedy(JFK) was a catholic and bush(GWB) is a declared christian along with a whole bunch of other presidents. but honestly, who were the framers of our nation? most were deists which means that they believed in A god and that he created everything and then let nature take it's course. a few were athiests, one was undetermined, and just one was a christian. of course this country can allow a (godless) secular president to take control. it's been in the making for over 200 years.

| Rex, I would suggest you keep walking, because the true dirt of American beliefs are founded in Christianity! Freedom of speech is a respected enclave. If you, don't like it, state your own beliefs and argue them. And why would you leave a trucker's forum for a blog such as this? You ought to know that we are a bunch of mind numbed robots spewing out the Wise one's philosophy! |

| You guys are aware that the motto ''In god we trust'' was only turned as the official american motto in 1956 by a president who just wanted to use a deeply religious line to symbolise his conflict against the secular soviet union? Most of the founders of the U.S, as mention earlier, where Deist, Atheist or barely religious, mostly because of the philosophy des lumières, which breeded the idea of democracy for the revolutionnary leaders of america. |

| Antiochus, man, it is pretty easy to point out your naivete on damn near everything. The first motto appeared in 1864 on coins. True, there was a congressional act in 1956, but there were many delineations before hand. It's not breeded, it's bred, and by the way this is a Republic, not a democracy! |

| Point taken for the mistake with the word democracy. But as for the rest, its just proven that the "In God We Trust", while written on the currency, was not chosen as the actual motto until the 1950s. The country was originally founded by Deists, inspired by the Age of Enlightenment, and they made it clear in the constitution that religion should not take an important part of the political landscape.
