So, do you agree with Aristotle that "happiness depends on ourselves."? WHY, when so many americans have SO much are they STILL not happy? It, most certainly, does not depend on what you own, that is patently obvious to me. Are you happy or just content? I am extremely happy as I DO believe it depends on each person...when you have to have better than your neighbor, I think you can never be happy, agree?

I completely agree. I have met so many people that make their life the quest for money under the mindset that they will reach happiness, yet even with the next TV, a new house, another car, they are never happy. You have to learn to appreciate what you have and find joy in the world around you. Hiking through miles of desert climbing through waterfalls and scrambling over rocks is a lot more exciting than watching King of the Hill on a 72" plasma. But maybe that's just me.

No, I don't think it's just you. I think that there are many who don't really appreciate anything because they are to worried about besting someone else's life.
As for me, I've been through more than enough in this life to know that the real things that matter are the small things.
Whether it's watching a sunset or walking in the snow, etc.
So yes you are 100% correct.

I vehemently disagree: Neither the extremes of superficial materialism nor of retreat inward from external reality ever bring happiness! HAPPINESS is subjective well-being, an INDIVIDUALLY REACTIVE STATE VARIABLE to howsoever favorable circumstances. Without limits/restrictions there can be no happiness.

you know I agree with you......children will push their parents to the limit till they learn what the boundary's are...once set they will be content till they once again feel the need to "test the waters" and make sure......

Happy yes I think I am, there are things/people in my life I am not ecstatic about but I can not make that go away so I learn what I can do to make the most of each day.......there are days when I am home and may not go anywhere the whole day and that is ok too.......Like Wise said we have so much here....I can look around my ranch and see things to do.....some are fun and some are just plain work and some are just nescessary.......

I just met a fellow driver from my company that I had only "talked" to on TR. He later told me that when all of us drivers were talking in the break room that night every time he looked at me I was smiling...I was unaware.....I try to enjoy myself where ever I go.....
