Question Ideas on Taxes

Here's an idea. Let's abolish the tax code as we know it. insistute a new income tax that has no tax cap and collects a 10 percent tax on income. it is 10 percent no matter how much or little you make. no tax breaks and no refunds. i understand this is a very simplistic way of looking at it and i know there is more to consider but it's a really good base to start isn't it? I mean, it would put everyone on the same level and the burden of taxes would no longer be on the middle class. i've known several middle class workers who pay between 30 and 50 percent of their income in taxes with a minimal tax return. this is wrong especially when you have the extreme rich who end up paying less than 5 percent of their income in taxes some even less than 1 percent. why can't we be equal.

speaking of equality...how does everybody feel about people who live in washington d.c.? they get taxed but they have no representation in congress because they are not legally a state, they are a district. what ever happened to "no taxation with out representation"?

Hey, I see you are from Georgia too. Do you support John Linder's Fair Tax idea?

As to what you are saying, the idea of a flat tax rate of 10% in general with no refunds or tax breaks would be a tough sell in Congress and also to me. Tax breaks can encourage philanthropy that otherwise would not occur. Tax breaks are also good for the economy and people spend their refund checks and they inject those checks directly into the economy which helps create economic growth. Would businesses be expected to pay a 10% tax off of profits under your idea? Tax breaks geared to businesses are used to help them become more environmentally friendly.
