| Do you think the American War for independence would have been won without French support? I do NOT think so. I think, without the French, the American Revolution would have failed, you?

| No doubt Rochembeau played a great roll.... My ancestor Fiat Wysong fought with Gen Washington at the battle of Yorktown. Now for history the Wysong family was pronounced Vi (long i sound) saun. The Name Vinson in French is pronounced Vi (long i) saun......correct assumption this family originally resided in France with the spelling Vinson and fled to France in early 1700's I believe, to Germany and then on to America...well my ancestor after this battle that Rauchembeau showed up just in time for, Fiat Wysong, was sent on with Rachembeau. by Gen Washington,...I am assuming that this family still spoke French..... Now also remember that many of the colonies were suffering the ravages of war up in the northern colonies but the southern colonies were pretty much out of harms way...If memory serves me right it was Nathanel Greene that led this souther campaign into the backwoods of the Southern states that enabled our home grown uses to hunting in the woods... malitia to fight against an army trained to do combate in a "staright" line fashion.
