The decline of American civilization is a very complex subject and there are so many aspects to it that I'm sure a 2000 page book could not begin to completely cover the subject. Firstly I'd like to point out that there is no American empire in the traditional meaning of that term. America is a civilization, a large and very powerful country with a lot of influence through out the world. In it's history America has been a society that has always been at war with itself. It has presented widely opposite positions in what is said the country is founded upon and the real actions of the government which are in total opposition to these principals. I guess the most glaring example of this was the issue of slavery. "All men are created equal" but at the same time it is legal to buy and sell human beings. This is an old example but I believe that it is representitive of a lot of issues in the USA today. The country claims to champion freedom and democracy but at the same time has supported almost every repressive and abusive regime that has come along since the end of WW2. Any where in the world where the people are struggling to throw off their shackels and gain some basic human rights the Americans are going to oppose it and perhaps even arm and support the oppressors and make it possible for them to murder thousands and smash the possibility of any real progress in these countries. Examples of this are Chile where the USA supported a homicidal maniac, Pinochet, to overthrow a legally elected government. There are a lot of examples of this misguided foreign policy and I really don't want to get into it here except to make the point that the rest of the world is very aware of this and it causes many to dislike the USA and it causes many to hate the USA and wish to do her harm. It would be bad enough if this bipolar type behaviour was confined to foreign affairs but the fact is that it is even more pronounced in domestic affairs. What America claims for herself and what the reality of things are are at opposite ends of the spectrum. The claims of being the best country in the world against the reality of millions of working poor who can't even afford to feed their children properly. The unimaginable gap between the Haves and the have nots. A government of, for, and by the people that is controlled by a very small group of special interests whom govern the land for their own good and damn the peoples interests. We see a country that claims it's athority in the world is derived from superior moral sense yet the culture is morally bankrupt. Just turn on the TV and the most popular shows are full of the most degrading, disgusting and evil garbage that you can imagine. There is even a show that specializes in the sexual crimes commited against children." Law and order SVU". The portrail of Americans in the popular media is that it is a nation obsessed with sex, violence, perversion, crime, and the constant glorification of wealth as the highest attainment possible. Everything is OK as long as you end up with the money. Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Hooker marries rich wierdo, everythings OK she got the money. The general portrail in the media of the government as an evil, horrible blood sucking entity that is capable of any unimaginable crime against it's own citizens. As in the example of the foreign policy I could go on and on about this skitzo culture but I feel that I have made my point.
I'm sure that you have all met people who profess ideas but live in a way that is in total opposition to their stated ideas. The most common reaction that I have incountered when one of these people is confronted with this is an instant denial and an intense dislike of the one pointing out the truth. These people are not usually interested in making any changes as they have been able to fool themselves about who they are. I think America has done a very good job of fooling themselves about who they are. Are you the country of freedom or are you the country of oppression? Morality or immorality, Equality or inequality, Law or privelige. There are many more of these opposites and until America is able to act in accord with her stated stances the civilization will continue to decline and America's position in the world will continue to erode.

Let the chruch say Yesssssssssss YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.

This is very true. America is fast on the way down and will lose its influence in the world before long as it has already begun. Other nation's are now dropping the dollar and moving to the Euro. It's sad, but truly fascinating to watch with my own eyes...history being made. And I watch American's think nothing of it...they are in for a big surprise.

It might not be a bad thing for America to lose her empire. Look at the case of the UK whose empire America has inherited. When the UK was the most powerful nation on earth the average Englishman lived like a slave. He was a wage slave of the worst sort never able to acchieve any kind of security or comfort from his toil. Like America the benefits of the empire were for a very small number of people at the very top of the social order. Like America their empire created chaos all throughout the world with constant wars and instability as a result. What in the world makes anyone believe that you can oppress and subjegate people without facing a major backlash at some point.

What really astonishes me is that more people don't seem to pick up on what's going on. The world is about to change in a major, maybe heretofore unseen way, and everybody just sort of goes about their daily business. Me? I'm investing in an umbrella, because this chicken just ran by me screaming something about the sky falling, and I'm inclined to believe him.

AMEN! I agree 100%. It is enough to stagger the imagination! They, seemingly, have no clue what is about to come on this earth. The only way I think America will change is to be brought to its knees. There will be no change until we are humbled. Seems as if 9/11 was not enough. I think it now has to actually hit most Americans so they feel the pain in their OWN lives and not watching it on the news. Then, and only then, can America shake it off and try to get back up. Quite possibly this won't be done and America is done for.
