Oil prices hit all-time highs above $115 a barrel Thursday with reports that oil and gasoline stocks in the United States were lower than expected and as the dollar hit record lows.
Light, sweet crude for May delivery rose as high as $115.54 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It eased back to $114.89 a barrel by the afternoon in Europe, down 4 cents, as the dollar strengthened slightly and traders booked profits.
On Wednesday, the contract settled at $114.93 a barrel.
In London, Brent crude futures fell 1 cent to $112.65 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

It's news, but we live in a free market world, if demand goes down dramaticly, the prices will fall.

We better get used to it. If demand falls,ha ha. There are Millions and millions and millions more Chinese and Indians who are all going to be driving cars in the next 10 years. I think what we are seeing is just the begining of a run up in the price of oil that could triple in price. What about 300 dollars a barrel? It could happen and we better do something to get ready for it. Forget the middle east and all it's incredible problems. Did you know that just a couple hundred miles north of Montana there is the second biggest pool of oil on earth. I think it's probably the biggest but for reasons of their own the Canadians like to minimize it. Just next door in Saskatchewan they are starting to make some big oil discoveries. They figure that the oil reserves in Alberta alone would supply the current demand in The United Ststes for well over a hundred years. Get these resourses developed. Get this crude flowing south through the pipelines to the refineries in the midwest. Get an energy security agreement signed with Canada and Mexico where none of us pays world prices for energy. Implement the clean coal technology and start pumping out those megawatts. Develop the rest of the hydroelectric potential in Canada and it is huge. Build lots of nuclear plants. Ontario is going to already but build more. It's probably the cleanest big potential of them all. This would create millions of jobs for the next 30 years at least. It would stop the export of American capital to countries where it comes back to bite. It would secure energy supplies and control costs. It would bring great prosperity to North America. It would enable America to thumb their nose at these God forsaken countries where energy security now lies. Canada has these resourses. Canada would rather deal with the USA than anybody else. The capital flowing out of the USA for Canadian oil would go primarily to Canadian branches of U.S. oil companies and the profits can go right back to the States. The royalities paid to the Canadian government although they are the lowest in the world will make Canada the richest country per capita in the world. This is reality Canada has the oil, Canada will get the Royalities one way or the other and I would really hope that this oil ends up going to our American brothers at a discount than the Chinese or Indians or anyone else. One other point that I would like to make involving North American security is that I am very disappointed that the USA will not agree with Canada regarding Canada's claim to the waters of the Northwest passage. This has potential to create huge problems with third parties eg. Russia, and if you can believe it Denmark coming in and drilling for oil in Canadian waters. I,m pretty sure that the Canadian navy will not allow this but the potential for conflict is there. If the USA recognized this as being Canadian waters I don't think that it would escalate into s major conflict. Canada could and should then Recognize Americas claim to the portion of the Arctic ocean she claims arising from Alaska. Whatever it is crucially important for the future of North america that the ties that bind be stronger and stronger between us.
